The accommodation we can provide

Find out more about the facilities available within the Gilgal refuge.

We have two properties, each in secure locations. Both of our locations are staffed by women only, although from time to time there are visiting male contractors. The main site has 6 rooms that can house up to 8 residents; 6 women and up to 2 children.

  • 4 rooms for single women
  • 1 room for mother and child
  • 1 room or mother and baby

A cosy bedroom featuring a single bed with a floral-patterned duvet, a teal pillow, and a desk with a chair. Two windows allow natural light to enter the room.
A clean and tidy bedroom featuring two metal-framed single beds, a desk, chair, and mirror. A skylight provides natural light.

Each bedroom is furnished and features a personal television and small ensuite with a toilet, shower and sink, allowing residents their independence and privacy.

Additionally, we have five self-contained flats which are located in the original Gilgal building from 1994. We offer these as move-on accommodation for single women.

A modern dining area featuring a wooden table surrounded by black leather chairs. A black sofa with colorful cushions is in the background, along with framed artwork on the walls.

Additionally, at our main site have a shared kitchen with two washers and driers, a garden, and a living room space with a seating area, larger television, and dining table. These common spaces are designed to bring residents together, allow them to build a sense of community, and give them a sense of home and comfort. It is important that our residents have space to relax outside of their rooms, and to socialise with others in a risk-free environment.

We hold trips and classes such as yoga, craft, and gardening sessions to help our women discover hobbies and make new friends.

To keep the refuge safe and comfortable for everyone, residents look after their own rooms and help care for shared spaces such as the kitchen through a cleaning rota.

“When I first came to Gilgal, I was nervous about sharing my time and space with other people. I decided to just lock myself in my room and avoid everyone. But within the first week, I realised the staff are lovely, and just want to help. I started to come out more and speak with the other women, and now, I love it here. It’s a really nice place to be.”
